I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), lactation educatore, writer, speaker, and infant feeding advocate with expertise in breast feeding with a cleft lip and palate, lactation support and the LGBTQI community, and inequities in access to lactation support and barriers to the profession.
I am a cleft parent and member of the LGBTQI community. I work extensively with parents, carers and families, parent support organisations, health teams, and providers in order to increase awareness of the specific challenges faced by cleft affected infants and their families, LGBTQI parents, carers, families and health providers, advocating and providing practical tools to improve access to adequate lactation support for these communities.
I am currently an undergraduate student with the Open University (UK) completing a bachelor of science with a focus on public health promotion and developing practice. I participated in the 2014 Lactation Summit (Addressing Inequities within the Lactation Consultant Profession), was a committee member of the Lactation Equity Team in 2014 and 2015, and presented (via live streaming) at the LEAC Global Forum in 2016, and have participated as a peer-reviewer for the Journal of Human Lactation and the Journal of GLBT Family Studies.
